A balcony may be small, but it can add another layer to how we live at home. It can extend the interior outdoors and bring planting into direct relationship with everyday life.
How the space is arranged influences how it can be used. Planting can create shade and privacy, support local biodiversity and improve the immediate environment. As part of the building, a balcony is also a small piece of urban landscape.
These spaces change over time. Planting grows, declines and returns, becoming part of how the space is experienced through the seasons.
